Your qualifications

Applicants must possess very strong research qualifications and teaching skills, have experience with research leadership and the ability to obtain external funding. Applicants should typically have a minimum of 4-5 years of experience as associate professor.
It is required that non-Danish speakers acquire reasonable knowledge of Danish within the first three years of employment. If relevant, the department will grant time off from teaching to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.
The required qualifications are elaborated below. In the evaluation of qualifications, the main emphasis will be put on the last 5-10 years when relevant. Due consideration will be given to periods of leave.

1. Research qualifications

The department is ambitious in terms of research. Applicants are expected to have a strong international research profile with emphasis on original contributions within their field of research.
In terms of research qualifications, publications in top political science and general journals or top journals within the above fields carry great weight. So does publication of monographs with internationally recognized publishers. However, the assessment will mainly focus on the scientific originality and contributions of the submitted publications, no matter their outlet. Applicants are also expected to present promising ideas for future research.

2. Didactical/pedagogical competences and experiences

Teaching and supervising students at different levels are important activities for a professor at the Department of Political Science. The Department is ambitious in terms of our teaching programmes at BA, MA and PhD level. Applicants must have extensive experience from teaching several courses at all levels of academic teaching, including PhD supervision.
Applicants must submit a teaching portfolio that carefully documents didactical/pedagogical competencies.
Applicants must have completed pedagogical training at the university level.

3. Qualifications relating to research cooperation and leadership, and knowledge sharing with the public

Applicants must have extensive experience in research leadership and cooperation. Relevant experiences encompass project participation and leadership, editorial experience from professional journals or edited volumes, and experience with planning and running professional conferences and workshops.
Applicants must also have good communication skills and experience with research dissemination. This may be documented by, for example, publications aimed at the public, participation in the public debate or activities related to advising public authorities.

4. External funding

Applicants must document the ability to obtain external research funding.

Who we are

The Department of Political Science is among Europe’s highest-ranking political science departments. It is large, in part because it includes a large Public Administration section. With around 100 academic staff members and 45 PhD students, we offer a lively and ambitious research and teaching environment. The Department of Political Science emphasises a dynamic and flexible research and teaching profile characterised by pluralism and openness. We expect active participation in the department’s activities and the relevant research field section. This includes being present at the department at least three working days per week.

The research conducted at the department covers all political science disciplines and represents a variety of methodological approaches. This enables us to focus on new problem areas as they appear in the national and international political arena, and it allows us to contribute actively to the development of the discipline. We also emphasise communicating our research results to the political administrative system and to the public in general.

The department is one of six departments at Aarhus BSS (School of Business and Social Science), one of five faculties at Aarhus University. Aarhus BSS unites the business and social science-related research fields and brings them closer together to reflect the close relationship between society and the business community.
