Thomas Kim Lab at DANDRITE and The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invite applications for a position as a Postdoc in the field of Neuroscience as of 1 October 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 3-year full-time position.

About DANDRITE and Thomas Kim Lab

DANDRITE performs basic and translational research in neuroscience and brain disorders. We aim at unraveling the mechanisms that explain cellular communication and computation networks in brain circuitries, and how these are affected in neurodevelopment and neurological and psychiatric disorders. DANDRITE is the Danish node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, which is a joint venture between the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the Universities of Helsinki/Finland, Oslo/Norway, Umea/Sweden, and Aarhus/Denmark. The four nodes of the Partnership adhere to the EMBL model for research organization, training, and evaluation, and are primarily organized by Group Leader programs defining research bottom-up. The Partnership provides joint access to research infrastructures, including databases, facilities, and instrumentation, as well as to clinical materials, networks, and training activities.

As a Group Leader at DANDRITE Thomas Kim’s laboratory’s core focus is on deciphering the molecular mechanisms and functions of diverse cell states and types in the context of neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. We strive to generate hypotheses utilizing data science that can be experimentally tested in the lab.

About the research project

Our neurodegeneration project aims to investigate the molecular mechanisms that regulate various microglial states in neurodegenerative diseases and assess the potential of targeting these populations as a therapeutic strategy.

Our neurodevelopment project is focused on understanding the specification of the hypothalamus, which plays a vital role in regulating innate behaviors and physiological homeostasis. To accomplish this, we will employ multi-omic methods and utilize in vitro and in vivo functional genomic approaches.

Your job responsibilities

As Postdoc in Thomas Kim’s lab, your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.
Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Candidates with strong backgrounds in neuroscience (neurodevelopment or neurodegeneration) are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience with one or more of the criteria would be beneficial - bioinformatics (single-cell Omics methods), iPSC, organoid, animal behavior, optogenetics, virus-mediated circuit tracing, neuroanatomy.
You will report to Group Leader, Dr. Thomas Kim.

Your competences

To qualify, candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, with expertise in one or more of the following research areas: molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience (neurodevelopment or neurodegeneration), and bioinformatics. We are looking for a candidate who aspires to establish their own laboratory in the future.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.

In order to be assessed as qualified for a Postdoc position, you must meet these academic criteria.
